A new mural titled “Cerutti” has been unveiled at Via Gentile Bellini 8, in the heart of Milan’s Giambellino neighborhood. The work, created by illustrator and musician Davide Toffolo, marks the final chapter of the “Un nome in ogni quartiere” project. The mural pays tribute to the iconic song “Ballata del Cerutti” by Giorgio Gaber, a classic of Milan’s cultural heritage.
Painted across a 25-meter wall at the Youth Community Center (CAG) “Comunità del Giambellino”, the mural was brought to life by artist Marc Gortana, in collaboration with local youth, educators, and the social research organization Codici Ricerca Intervento.
Three central themes emerge from the piece: the dragon, the voices of the neighborhood, and the home.
A large dragon—Cerutti—stands tall as a symbolic guardian of the community, while voices of residents flow from the houses in multiple languages, reflecting the area's cultural diversity and strong social ties.
The project “Un nome in ogni quartiere”, promoted by the Office for Art in Public Spaces of the City of Milan and Milano&Partners, has involved twenty-one neighborhoods across the city. It is supported by Fondazione di Comunità Milano, which — together with Fondazione Claudio De Albertis — funded half of the artistic interventions.
