    ABITARE FUTURO

What will our urban spaces look like in the near future? What technical and structural features will cities need to embrace to tackle the climate, demographic, and social challenges that lie ahead? The core of this issue of Urbano dives into these questions through ten thought-provoking articles. Each one explores a different angle — from Venice to Milan, Paris to Montreal, from China to the Italian-Austrian border — and even ventures into the idea of a city that doesn’t exist yet: the one in space.

    GUARDANDO VERSO L'ALTO

The urge to look up — to turn our gaze skyward — has been with humanity since the very beginning. TUTTO QUELLO CHE NON SI VEDE

Hypogeal architecture, past and present — caves, cemeteries, basements. Beneath the street level, in the dark, entire worlds exist — both real and imagined. This underground space can house museums, restaurants, universities, nightclubs, even homes. It hides fantasies, characters, hopes, and memories. The underground — a space humans have always explored and inhabited — is more alive than ever.

    SAPERE DIFFUSO

Knowledge — and the many forms that culture can take — comes to life in a wide range of places: museums, galleries, and institutions, but also city festivals, newsstands, public squares, and online platforms. Each of these spaces, with their unique layouts and materials, shapes the kinds of activities that unfold within them, giving those activities specific goals and meanings. In this way, the city and its architecture become the perfect stage for spreading and sharing knowledge.
